Project Description

The proposed project will enhance habitat conditions on a species-rich 316-acre wetland complex by maintaining consistent water at suitable levels. This project will ensure continued availability of high-quality staging and breeding habitat on 316 acres for 10 oiled species: Least Bittern, Black Tern, Black-crowned Night-heron, Common Tern, Lesser Scaup, Pied-billed Grebe, Semipalmated Sandpiper, Short-billed Dowitcher, Yellow-billed Cuckoo, and Mallard1. An additional 17 species of priority migratory birds were identified as either utilizing Nicolet Marsh for breeding or for staging/stopover during their migration to and from the Gulf Coast States.
