Project Description

Shell Island East created 83 acres of marsh and 188 acres of dune and beach on the eastern lobe of Shell Island in Plaquemines Parish using 2.17 million cubic yards of sediment dredged from the Mississippi River. This project restored an eroded barrier island that acts as a buffer against coastal erosion and helped to re-establish a productive habitat.
